Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have rescued a 15-year-old girl who is pregnant and arrested a suspect, Tochukwu Nwora, during an operation in Achalla, in the Awka area.

The raid was carried out by officers attached to the Achalla Divisional Headquarters in Awka on the evening of June 17, 2026. It followed intelligence reports concerning suspected criminal activity around St. Paul’s Secondary School, Achalla.

During the operation, police officers intervened after identifying what they described as an inappropriate interaction involving the minor and the suspect. The girl was immediately taken into protective custody.

Authorities said preliminary investigation suggests that the victim may have been subjected to repeated sexual abuse by multiple adult males across Nando, Nteje, and Achalla. Investigators are also examining allegations that she was exploited through financial inducements.

The suspect remains in custody and is assisting the police with ongoing investigations.

The victim has been taken to the Police Hospital in Awka for medical care and evaluation.

The Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive investigation. The directive includes examining possible involvement or negligence by the victim’s guardian or parent and identifying all individuals connected to the case.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said:

“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for detailed investigation aimed at identifying all persons involved and ensuring accountability under the law.”

He added:

“The Command strongly condemns all forms of child abuse and exploitation. We remain committed to protecting vulnerable persons and ensuring justice is served.”
