Armed Forces Take Control of Kogi REC’s Residence After Bold Attack

The Kogi State Police Command has officially acknowledged a daring attack on the residence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Gabriel Longpet.

Commissioner of Police in Lokoja, Mr. Bethrand Onuoha, addressed the media on Friday, condemning the incident as “very unfortunate and wicked.” The assailants struck at Dr. Longpet’s residence around 3:00 am on Friday, encountering formidable resistance from security personnel.

Mr. Onuoha provided reassurance by stating, “The joy of it all is that the hoodlums did not succeed in their nefarious act as my officers gallantly repelled their attack and burnt the vehicle they came with.”

Currently, the residence is under the protection of both soldiers and police personnel, ensuring heightened security. The Commissioner emphasized, “Right now, there are soldiers stationed in the house alongside our personnel to keep watch and ensure safety.”

To further fortify security measures, armed soldiers and policemen have been strategically positioned at key junctions surrounding the REC’s residence and the INEC office. This precautionary stance aims to prevent any potential recurrence of such audacious acts.

The motives behind the attack remain under investigation, and the authorities are actively working to ensure the safety and security of electoral processes in Kogi State.
