APGA’s Mimi Azikiwe Wins Onitsha North By-Election
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Mimi Azikiwe, has emerged winner of the Onitsha North Constituency 1 by-election in Anambra State.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Azikiwe victorious after she secured a total of 7,774 votes, defeating her closest rival, Justina Azuka of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Azuka, the widow of Justice Azuka—who was abducted and killed by gunmen in 2024—had contested to fill the vacant seat left behind by her late husband, a former member of the Labour Party.
Professor Ebien, the returning officer for the election, officially announced the results, confirming Azikiwe’s landslide win.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) trailed in third place with 1,371 votes.
The by-election was conducted to fill the State House of Assembly seat following the tragic killing of Justice Azuka, which left the constituency unrepresented.
