APC to Sanction Delta Rep for Endorsing Governor Oborevwori’s Re-election
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has announced plans to take disciplinary action against Hon. Francis Waive, the member representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Udu federal constituency in the House of Representatives, for endorsing Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s second-term bid.
Waive, a prominent APC member, sparked controversy within the party by supporting Oborevwori, the current governor and a member of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The APC views this as a violation of party loyalty and policies.
In a letter dated September 15, 2024, and signed by the APC Delta State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, the party described Waive’s public endorsement as a “gross anti-party activity.” The letter highlighted that Waive’s actions, captured in a viral video, had tarnished the party’s reputation.
Part of the letter reads: “The attention of the leadership of the State Executive Committee of our great party has been drawn to a video recording… where you were seen and heard openly canvassing for support and endorsing the second-term ambition of Delta State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP)… This action… is a gross display of anti-party behaviour that has caused public opprobrium and brought the image of the party into disrepute.”
The APC has given Waive seven days to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee to explain his actions or face severe consequences. The lawmaker has yet to respond to the letter as of the time of this report.
