APC Challenges PDP Governors: “Resign Instead of Blaming FG”
In a scathing statement released on Sunday, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) criticized Governors under the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), labeling them as idle and complicit spectators in the nation’s economic affairs. The APC, represented by its publicity directorate, led by Felix Morka, responded to recent calls from PDP governors urging President Bola Tinubu to step down in light of the escalating cost of living in Nigeria.
Accusing the PDP governors of neglecting their constitutional responsibilities, the APC emphasized the importance of collaboration among the federal, state, and local governments in a federal system like Nigeria’s. The statement underscored the duty of governors to contribute constructive ideas and solutions to national challenges through their participation in bodies like the National Economic Council and National Council of State.
While acknowledging the governors’ right to free speech, the APC cautioned against reckless remarks that could incite social upheaval. It criticized the PDP governors for likening Nigeria to Venezuela in a recent communique, deeming such comparisons unhelpful and indicative of unrighteous indignation given the current economic and security challenges in Nigeria.
The APC accused the PDP governors of failing in their responsibilities as chief executive officers of their states, describing them as “doomsday vocalists” who neglect the needs of their citizens. Notably, the statement highlighted the disparity between federal allocations to states, such as Delta, and the visible impact on improving the living conditions of the people.
In a bold call to action, the APC challenged the PDP governors to resign from their offices, asserting that the “buck ultimately stops” at their tables. The statement argued that the blame for their failure to mobilize resources effectively should not be shifted to the federal administration. In contrast, the APC praised President Bola Tinubu for taking responsibility and providing solid leadership during a period of economic transformation. The party urged patience from Nigerians, assuring that the administration’s bold reforms would yield positive results for the nation’s future prosperity.
