Anti-Party: APC Suspends Lawmaker, Jibrin

The All Progressives Congress (APC), in Kano state has suspended the member representing Bebeji/ Kiru constituency in the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin over anti-party activities. 

Jibrin’s suspension according to the APC chairman in Bebeji local government, Alhaji Sulaiman Sabo Gwarmai in a press statement issued on Wednesday, was based on the recommendation of a seven-man committee which was constituted to investigate him following a petition from a concerned party faithful. 

Gwarmai said the committee confirmed that Jibrin indeed carried out various anti-party activities in contravention of the party’s constitution. 

The statement reads in part; “upon a petition received by the APC executive committee of Bebeji Local Government, a seven-man committee was inaugurated to investigate all the issues raised by the petitioner. 

“ After a thorough investigation the Committee submitted its report and recommendations to the Local Government executive which subsequently met and adopt as follows:

“ That having confirmed various anti-party activities by Hon. Abdulmuminu Jibrin Kofa which was found contrary to some provisions of the party’s constitution, ranging from article 21, paragraph A (ii) (V) And (Vii) the executive committee adopted the report and herby suspended Hon. Kofa with immediate effect for 12 months.”

The Committee also urged the state executive of the party to recommend to the National Working Committee for the expulsion of the lawmaker from the party.

Jibrin is not new to suspensions. In 2016 he was suspended from the House of Representatives for 180 days over allegations of budget padding that he leveled against then Speaker Yakubu Dogara and some principal officers of the House. He refused to appear before the House committee on Ethics that investigated the allegations which led to his suspension.
