Another Blow to PDP as Party Loses Second Governor to APC in One Month
Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant political shift in the state. The announcement was made in Uyo, the state capital, on Friday, following weeks of speculation and subtle hints.
Governor Eno had earlier signaled his intention to switch parties during a town hall meeting in Ikot Abasi, where he stated, “It is time to move,” emphasizing the need to align Akwa Ibom with the APC-led federal government. According to the governor, the decision came after extensive consultations with stakeholders and political allies.
The defection attracted top APC leaders and governors who gathered in Uyo to formally receive Eno into the party. Among those present were the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, as well as Governors Bassey Otu of Cross River, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun. Also in attendance were Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Monday Okpebholo of Edo, and Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi.
