Anambra’s Special Anti-Touting Squad Cracks Down on Robbery Gang in Onitsha

The Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA) of Anambra State has intensified its crackdown on criminal activities, making a major breakthrough with the arrest of two suspected robbers in Onitsha.

The suspects, Chinedu Ihuobi and Ikemefuna Eze, both from Imo State, were apprehended at Upper Iweka after allegedly robbing a victim, Eze Franklin, of his Samsung X20F9 Ultra smartphone and N100,000 on the evening of January 15. During interrogation, they confessed to another robbery in Awka earlier that day.

According to the suspects, they sold Franklin’s smartphone—valued at over N1 million—for just N50,000 to a Point-of-Sale (POS) agent operating under the Upper Iweka flyover. Authorities are working to trace the buyer and recover the stolen property.

Further investigations revealed that the suspects were part of a larger criminal network. They identified two accomplices, known as “Assassin” and “John,” who remain at large. A police manhunt is underway to track them down.

SASA spokesperson Amb. Karen James, in a statement issued in Awka on Friday, commended the squad’s swift action and reassured the public that security remains a top priority. She urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, emphasizing that criminals will find no refuge in Anambra State.

Onitsha residents have expressed appreciation for the squad’s efforts in curbing crime. SASA has vowed to sustain its operations across the state, ensuring that criminal elements are brought to justice.

The suspects will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.
