Anambra’s New CP Declares War on Monday Sit-at-Home, Deploys Massive Security
Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has intensified efforts to end the Monday sit-at-home order that has disrupted economic activities in the state. The sit-at-home directive, originally declared in 2021 by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to demand the release of its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has continued to impact businesses despite its official abolition.
On Monday, Orutugu visited key locations across the state, including major markets, parks, and junctions, to boost public confidence and assure residents of enhanced security measures. His visit was accompanied by a strengthened security presence aimed at restoring normalcy.
According to a statement from the state police command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the commissioner led a large-scale deployment of security personnel to strategic areas to enforce security dominance. The operation included increased patrols, surveillance, intelligence gathering, and community engagement. These proactive measures, the statement noted, are designed to deter criminal activities, foster community trust, and create a secure environment for economic and social development.
Orutugu also commended the people of Anambra and the state government for launching Operation Udo Ga Chi, an initiative aimed at reinforcing peace and security. He praised residents for uniting against actions that threaten public safety and reiterated the police force’s commitment to using all necessary legal measures to stabilize the state. He emphasized that both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches would be continually reviewed to ensure a comprehensive security strategy.
