Anambra Truth Committee Set to Present Insecurity Report to Governor Soludo

The Anambra Truth, Justice, and Peace Committee, tasked with investigating the rising insecurity in the south-eastern region, announced that it is poised to submit its comprehensive report to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on March 6.

Chidi Odinkalu, former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), shared this update during a press briefing in Awka, the state capital, on Monday.

Expressing optimism, Odinkalu described the impending report as a potential “watershed” moment in the ongoing pursuit of peace, reconciliation, and stability in the south-east.

Governor Soludo had established the commission in June 2022, assigning it the critical mission of unraveling the complexities surrounding the surge in insecurity within the state. Alongside Soludo’s directive, the committee, which boasts Bianca Ojukwu as its secretary, was also entrusted with proposing viable solutions.

Acknowledging the challenges encountered during the investigation, Odinkalu emphasized the significance of the commission’s work and expressed gratitude for the support received from both the government and communities across the south-eastern region.

“We also want to thank the good people of Anambra, traditional rulers, town union leaderships, security agencies, and the media for their invaluable cooperation and support,” he stated.

Odinkalu concluded by expressing hope that the report would serve as a valuable reference for other state governors facing security challenges, encouraging them to approach the issue with sincerity and commitment.
