Anambra: Security Forces Kill IPOB Member, Recover Arms, Police Uniforms
In a late-night operation, joint security forces in Anambra State killed a member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and recovered a cache of arms, including police uniforms. The incident occurred around midnight on Sunday along the Uga-Ezinifite axis in Aguata Local Government Area.
According to police reports, the security team seized a black Prado Jeep, two AK-47 rifles, a pump-action shotgun, two loaded magazines, and 15 live cartridges. Other items recovered included police body armor, face caps, a black handbag, and various criminal charms.
Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, confirmed the operation. “On September 29, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., police-led security forces received information about suspected armed men in a black Prado Jeep along the Igbo Ukwu-Ezinifite-Uga axis. The operatives engaged the armed men, neutralizing one, while others fled with gunshot wounds,” Ikenga stated.
Although initial reports mentioned that some security personnel were injured, the police spokesperson clarified that no operatives were harmed during the encounter.
The security forces are continuing clearance operations in the area to apprehend the remaining gang members.
Anambra State has recently witnessed a rise in violent activities, with criminal groups involved in kidnapping and other violent crimes.
