Anambra Police, Vigilantes Raid Secessionist Camp: Kidnapped Victim Freed as Four Armed Suspects Killed (Photos)

Police operatives in Anambra State, working with the Anambra State Vigilante Group, have dismantled a secessionist camp at Awa in Orumba North Local Government Area. The operation, which began in the early hours of August 21, 2025, lasted more than 15 hours and led to the rescue of a kidnapped victim, the neutralization of four armed suspects, and the recovery of weapons and vehicles.

According to the Anambra State Police Command, the victim had been held hostage despite his family paying a ransom of ₦20 million. Security operatives stormed the camp and secured his release after a gun battle in which four suspects were killed.

Items recovered at the camp include two pump-action guns, a fabricated AK-47 rifle, a K2 assault rifle, a locally made hunter’s gun, radio transmission equipment, three improvised explosive devices, gas cylinders, cable wires, food supplies, identification documents, and several vehicles including a Lexus RX 350 and multiple Toyota Camry cars. Other items seized were mobile phones, sleeping materials, a desert boot, and tarpaulin.

Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu assured residents that security forces remain fully committed to sustaining the fight against criminality in the state. He added that operations are ongoing to track down fleeing suspects and destroy other hideouts.

Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga noted that further updates would be provided as the security effort continues.
