Anambra Police React to Ekwulobia, Oko Attacks: One Gunman Killed, Weapons, Vehicles Recovered
The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed a violent attack earlier today in parts of Aguata Local Government Area, including the Ekwulobia flyover and the town of Oko. According to a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, security operatives led by the police swiftly responded to the incident, engaging the armed attackers in a gun battle.
During the operation, one of the gunmen was shot and neutralized. The joint security team also recovered **an AK-47 rifle**, **an automatic pump-action shotgun**, and **four vehicles** believed to have been used by the assailants. The recovered vehicles include:
A red Toyota Camry (Reg. No: ENU 58 SC)
A custom-coloured GLK Mercedes Benz (without plate number)
A golden Lexus 330 (Reg. No: ENU 815 AP)
An ash Toyota Highlander (Reg. No: GDD 517 RW)
Tragically, two civilians were fatally hit during the indiscriminate shooting under the Ekwulobia flyover. A security vehicle—believed to belong to the Anambra State Vigilante Group—was also set ablaze during the attack. The bodies of the deceased have been recovered and deposited in a morgue.
In a related development, the **Oko Divisional Police Headquarters** also came under attack by the same armed group. However, police officers on duty successfully repelled the assault, and no casualties were recorded at the station.
The Anambra Police Command, under the directive of Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has intensified security operations in the affected areas. Residents have been urged to remain calm as the police and other security forces continue their operations to track down the fleeing attackers and ensure public safety.
SP Ikenga assured that more updates will be shared as investigations and operations progress.
