Anambra Police Arrest Native Doctor, Accomplice in Kidnapping, Armed Robbery; Manhunt Underway for Two Others

Anambra State Police have arrested two individuals, including a native doctor, in connection with a kidnapping and armed robbery case that unfolded in the Abagana area. The operation, which involved the police and Anambra Vigilantes, followed the testimony of a kidnapped victim who was freed on the evening of November 22, 2024, near Abagana Girls Secondary School.

The arrested suspects, Maduabuchukwu Ikechukwu Okafor, 30, and Nweze Chijindu, 38, both from Abagana, were apprehended at a shrine belonging to Okafor in Uru, Abagana. Authorities also recovered a pump-action firearm, the victim’s vehicle, a rope, a horsewhip, and other incriminating items. Two additional suspects, Supuluchukwu Nweze and Sunday Nwakanze, both aged 30, remain at large, and a manhunt has been launched.

Investigations have revealed that the victim was lured to the location through a phone call allegedly made by Nwakanze. Upon arriving at the site, the victim was abducted at gunpoint, robbed of his valuables, and transported to the shrine, where he was bound and gagged. Both Okafor and Chijindu have confessed to their involvement in the crime and are reportedly assisting the police in identifying other members of the criminal network.

The Anambra State Police Command has pledged to continue its efforts to ensure the safety of residents, stating that the investigation remains ongoing.
