The PDP seems to be nonexistent in Lagos State. At the rate things are moving it has become very necessary to revamp, restructure and overhaul the entire party structure in the state.
As a core believer of the ideals the PDP represents, it has become a responsibility of mine to proffer solutions to these problems. What Lagos PDP needs to do in other to win future elections are as follows;
- Online registration of new members.
These are modern times and the internet is the future. In order to control the political narrative and give a sense of belonging to all ecstatic members, the PDP should register into its fold thousands of people both on and offline. This innovative idea can help PDP get as much as 1 to 2 million members in Lagos who are able, willing and ready to work for the Party at all levels. - Youth inclusion in the leadership structure of the party.
The youth are the movers and shakers of political activities in Nigerian politics. It is most important for the PDP to rebrand itself as the platform for youth goals, aspirations and ambitions. The PDP has to make sure that leaders of the party structure from ward level, local government level to state level are youth driven. Anyone above the age of 45 should not be given any day to day running leadership position within the Party. The populace has to see youths as the face of the party. It has to be visible to all that youths are at the heart of the activities of the PDP. - Funding.
The National Leadership of the Party and members of zonal leadership should be persuaded to donate and raise funds to ensure the party’s growth and advancement in the interest of all. A token of 1,000 every 6 months will help us raise 1 billion naira per year going by the pace of registration of many. - Audit & accountability.
KPMG should be appointed to give an audit report every 2 years so as to prevent the embezzlement of funds. - Leadership roles for non Yorubas.
The PDP in Lagos must be able to capture the diversity in Lagos. The dominance of Yoruba overtime hasn’t helped the cause of the party. It has to be seen that the PDP belongs to all. Other tribes such as Igbos, Hausas, Edo, Ijaws and many others should be given roles to play in the Lagos PDP structure. Inclusion of various ethnicities will bring many into the party’s fold. - Gender inclusion.
A congregation devoid of women is bound to fail. Women are the chief mobilizers of support for political parties. The large turnout of women on Election Day is due to the mobilizing strength of women. Our women should be given roles and special slots in leadership positions. - Motivation and reward system.
Hardworking members and excos should be recognised and rewarded through juicy appointments at both the state and federal level.
If the above is implemented, defeating APC in Lagos will not be difficult.
Yours faithfully,
Dokun Ojomo
