Amos Josiah Dangut Named Head of WAEC in Nigeria

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has named Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut as the new Head of the Nigeria National Office. Dr. Dangut takes over the prestigious position from Patrick Areghan, whose tenure concludes this month.

In an official statement released by WAEC, it was disclosed that Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, prior to his appointment, had been serving as the Deputy Registrar in the Head of National Office’s office. His journey within WAEC commenced in 1998 when he joined as an Assistant Registrar II, steadily progressing through the ranks to achieve the role of Deputy Registrar in April 2018.

One notable achievement highlighted in the statement is his commendable stewardship of the Nigeria Examinations Committee, where he was recognized for maintaining transparency in the conduct of examinations from 2000 to 2006.

Dr. Dangut’s professional history within WAEC is rich and varied. He has held roles such as Assistant Registrar/Subject Officer in the Test Development Division, WAEC, Lagos (July 1998 – January 2005); Senior Assistant Registrar/Head of Examinations Security and Deputy to the Branch Controller, Uyo Branch Office (January 2005 – January 2008); Senior Assistant Registrar/Head of Examinations Security and Deputy to the Branch Controller, Bauchi Branch Office (January 2008 – December 2011); Senior Assistant Registrar/Branch Controller, Yola Branch office (December 2011 – January 2019); Deputy Registrar/Controller, Post Examinations Department (January 2019 – October 2020); and Deputy Registrar/Zonal Coordinator, Ikeja Zonal Office.

Born on October 2, 1967, in Mbar District of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State, Dr. Dangut’s educational journey includes attending Government Secondary School, Riyom (1981 to 1983), and Government Science School, Kuru (1983 to 1986), both in Plateau State. He obtained his WASC/SC in 1986. He then pursued higher education at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State, graduating with a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production in 1991.

For over two decades, Dr. Dangut has harnessed Information and Communications Technology to enhance processes in Test Development, Test Administration, and Post Test Activities at WAEC. Furthermore, he is recognized as a distinguished scholar with numerous educational publications featured in international and national journals. Dr. Dangut has also been a prominent figure at international and national conferences and forums, delivering numerous keynotes and other papers.
