Amaewhule-Led Assembly Gives Gov Fubara 7 Days To Re-Present 2024 Budget
The Factional Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule, has given Governor Siminalayi Fubara a seven-day deadline to re-present the 2024 budget. This directive was issued during the Assembly’s first session in months on Monday.
The Assembly’s ultimatum arises amid a backdrop of political tension, with a parallel session being conducted by another faction of the House led by Victor Oko-Jumbo. Governor Fubara had initially presented the budget to the Assembly faction loyal to him, at a time when his current Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, served as Speaker.
Ehie and other pro-Fubara legislators had approved the budget estimates, which Governor Fubara subsequently signed into law. The budget, according to Fubara, focuses on economic development, inclusive growth, and reducing socio-economic disparities within Rivers State.
