Alleged Sponsor of Anambra Protest Arrested on Multiple Charges

The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended Ozo Nweke, the purported sponsor behind a controversial nude women protest in Awka. The arrest comes in the wake of demonstrations against cult-related violence in Enugwu-Agidi, Njikoka Local Government Area, where protestors also accused two police officers of collusion with criminals.

Nweke, taken into custody in Abuja, faces charges ranging from land grabbing to intimidation, harassment, and rape. According to the state Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, Nweke and his company operatives are entangled in legal proceedings at both the Federal High Court and the State High Court.

CP Adeoye stated on Monday, “We arrested him to face prosecution. Nweke and operatives of his company have been charged to court in three different cases, one at the Federal High Court and two at the State High Court.” He continued, revealing that Nweke is actively engaged in a media campaign against DCP Akin Fakorede and the State CID, Awka, accusing them of corruption for allegedly not supporting his alleged criminal activities.

The arrest of Nweke marks a significant development in the ongoing legal battles surrounding the protests and sheds light on the multifaceted nature of the allegations against him. The community’s grievances, initially focused on cult-related violence, have now expanded to include accusations of criminal behavior against the arrested sponsor. As the legal proceedings unfold, the community awaits further developments in this complex case.
