Alleged Fraud: Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Ex-deputy Governor
An Akure Magistrate Court has taken action by issuing a bench warrant for the former deputy governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, amid accusations of fraudulent activities.
The arrest warrant was prompted by allegations of misappropriation and theft leveled against the former deputy governor, who is accused of acquiring a brand new Toyota Camry valued at N5.4 million through deceptive means back in May 2018.
The Commissioner of Police submitted an application to the court seeking a bench warrant to compel Ajayi’s presence in court to respond to these allegations.
Consequently, the court has ordered that Ajayi must appear before the court or provide a formal statement by November 24, 2023.
Furthermore, two former aides of Agboola Ajayi, Ogunmusi Samuel and Akintoye Olatunji, have already been arraigned before the court in connection to the alleged acquisition of the car from one Segun Adetuwo, popularly known as Showboy.
According to Samuel’s statement, he was instructed by the former deputy governor to accompany Olatunji to collect the car from Adetuwo. However, they left without making any payment for the vehicle.
Prosecutor Emmanuel Tanimowo informed the court that Ajayi had failed to respond to an invitation to present his side of the story.
Barrister Omolegbon Odunsola, representing Akintoye, mentioned that he has been actively attempting to contact Agboola and Adetuwo to explore the possibility of settling the matter outside of court.
Meanwhile, Alex Olademehin, representing Adetuwo, stated that Agboola had insisted on providing a written statement to the police or appearing in person before the court.
Presiding Magistrate Taiwo Lebi has issued an order for Ajayi or his statement to be brought to court on the next adjournment date, which is set for November 24, 2023.
