ALGON Uncovers Plot by Former Rivers LG Chairmen, Pro-Wike Lawmakers to Embark on Violent Protest
In a recent press release, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Rivers State Chapter has alerted the public to a planned protest orchestrated by former Local Government chairmen and Assembly members loyal to the F.C.T Minister, Nyesom Wike. This protest is set to target the Nigeria Police Force guarding the 23 Local Government Councils Secretariats in Rivers State.
ALGON asserts that the protest is not in the interest of the Local Government Areas or the state as a whole. Instead, they believe it to be a deliberate attempt by these “enemies of the state” to tarnish Rivers State’s image, incite violence, and support an unfounded call for a state of emergency.
In their statement, ALGON emphasized their full support for the police’s decision to maintain control and security over all Local Government Council secretariats until further notice. They distanced themselves from the protest, which they argue is designed to disrupt the progress and well-being of Rivers State’s citizens. ALGON cautioned that certain “desperate politicians” might exploit the protest to sow chaos and destabilize governance.
ALGON urged all law-abiding citizens to disregard the planned protest and continue their daily activities without fear. They warned that the organizers and their sponsors would be held accountable for any breakdown of law and order resulting from the protest.
The statement also expressed gratitude to the people of Rivers State for their unwavering support of Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, praising his administration for delivering significant democratic dividends.
The press release was signed by Hon. Ichemati Ezebunwo, Chairman of ALGON Rivers State Chapter, and Alabota Anengi Barasua, Secretary of the chapter.
