Akwa Ibom Police Recover Arms and Ammunition from Suspected IPOB Insurgents

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities within the state. During a routine patrol on Thursday, police operatives recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from individuals suspected to be linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Timfon John, the operation took place along Stadium Road in Abiakpo Edem Inyang Village, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area. Acting on intelligence that IPOB was planning an attack, the police intercepted a Lexus Jeep with Registration Number KUJ 886 FF. Upon spotting the police, two unidentified young men abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby forest.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of one AK-47 rifle loaded with eight rounds of 8MM ammunition, a locally-made long-range pistol, a cartridge, four different vehicle license plates, ATM cards from Zenith and Access Banks, a National Driver’s License, black clothing, bags containing suspected cannabis, and a torchlight.

Despite an extensive search of the surrounding forest with assistance from local villagers, the suspects remain at large. The police have vowed to continue their efforts to apprehend the fleeing individuals and identify their sponsors and accomplices.

The command has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The Akwa Ibom State Police reiterates its commitment to making the state an inhospitable environment for criminal elements.
