AIT.LIVE TOWN HALL ON MEDIA REGULATION, SOCIETY AND GOVERNANCE HOLDS IN ABUJA TODAY
AIT.LIVE, the digital platform of AIT News is hosting a townhall forum today, Monday 3rd, 2020 on Media regulation, Society and Governance at the NAF Conference Centre, Jahi from 9am.
The town hall aims to bring together leaders and stakeholders representing diverse positions and interests in the analysis of the bills before the National Assembly with a view to inform, engage and inspire decision makers – critically and constructively with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of decision making at the highest levels of government.
With confirmed attendances by the President of the Nigerian Senate and Chairman of the National Assembly, His Excellency Ahmed Lawan and the Honorable Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abdullahi Malami represented at the event as well as the National Broadcasting Commission in attendance, the legal and regulatory framework within which the merits and demerits of the bills will be evaluated will be under focus.
The townhall forum will have two panel sessions with the first aiming to address the bills before the National Assembly and the second addressing media regulation.
A rich panel of experts including the sponsors of the bills, the regulators to implement enforcement of the legislation, the NBC and NCC will be in attendance to share their perspectives, as well as human rights activist Prof Chidi Odin Kalu, country director, Amnesty International, Osai Ojigho, SA on Digital New Media to President Buhari, Tolu Ogunlesi, Anti-Corruption activist Hamzat Lawal as well as outspoken humanitarian and gender activist Ndi Kato all confirmed speakers in the first panel discussion.
The second panel addressing issues surrounding traditional and new media regulation will comprise of the representation of the NBC lead by Moddibo Kawu, Executive Chairman and Founder Silverbird Group, Senator Ben Murray Bruce, former DG NBC, Emeka Mba, DG Voice of Nigeria, Osita Okechukwu, President Nigerian Guild of Editors, Mustapha Issa, Chairman Media and Public Affairs committee and official spokesman Federal House of Representatives, Honourable Benjamin Kalu, Executive Director, Institute for Media and Society, Dr Akin Akinbolu , as well as Professor of Mass Communication Ado Bayero University, Kano, Prof Umar Patte.
The townhall forum is open to all stakeholders in the media industry, the legislature, political actors, CSOs, diplomatic missions, lecturers of mass communication and journalism, student and youth groups, media consumers and members of the general public. The event is open to all free of charge.
Registration opens at 8am and closes at 9.45am.
