Airpeace Accuses NLC, TUC Of Allegedly Disrupting Wednesday’s Operations In Lagos
One of the leading airlines in Nigeria, Airpeace, has accused the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, of allegedly disrupting Wednesday’s scheduled flight operations at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos, over reports that Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, paralysed the May Day activities in Owerri.
The management in a statement said, while the attack was ongoing, only Airpeace was not allowed to carry out its operations, as the unions took over the counter at the airport, with many air passengers stranded.
The airline admitted that it has no political affiliation with any individual, particularly with Governor Uzodinma, but only committed to the Nigerian flying public, and to deliver services to those it signed a contract with.
Airpeace explained that the illegal action of the NLC and TUC will lead to the loss of over N700m for the company and 110 scheduled flights will be disrupted and cancelled across the country, and may snowball into the coming days.
The management noted that the unions had carried out a similar attack on the airline, during a protest on minimum wage implementation, and expressed disappointment over the failure of security operatives attached to the airports, to swing into action, to maintain law and order.
The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC on Tuesday, had announced the resolution of the Central Working Committee, CWC, to paralyse the aviation sector in Imo State, over the alleged disruption of May Day celebrations in the state.
The NLC specifically notified its Lagos State Council to begin immediate mobilisation of its affiliate unions in the aviation sector, to prevent any flight from leaving Lagos State for Owerri, the Imo State capital.
