Agunechemba Militia Killing Youths in Anambra, Not ESN – IPOB to Soludo
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has alleged that the state-backed security outfit, Agunechemba, is responsible for the killing of innocent youths in Anambra State. The group distanced its own security arm, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), from the recent violence, insisting that Agunechemba is behind the attacks.
This accusation follows reports of youths being killed in Owerri Ezukala, a community in Orumba Local Government Area of Anambra State. IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, issued a strong warning to Governor Charles Soludo, urging him to ensure that the security outfit does not target IPOB members. He further accused the governor of using Agunechemba as a tool against political opponents ahead of the 2025 elections.
IPOB condemned what it described as “barbaric executions” and called for international condemnation of the alleged killings. The group reiterated its opposition to criminal activities in the southeast, stating that it has consistently supported efforts to combat insecurity in Anambra and Imo states. However, IPOB insisted that its members are law-abiding and should not be victims of state-sponsored violence.
The group urged Soludo to take responsibility by visiting the families of those allegedly killed, offering compensation, and issuing a public apology. IPOB emphasized that its members are peaceful and remain committed to the self-determination struggle for Biafra without engaging in criminal activities.
