Again, Melaye Loses as Court Upholds Election of Adeyemi
A court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has upheld the election of Smart Adeyemi as the senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District.
Justice Kashim Kaigama who led a three-man panel unanimously dismissed the petition by Dino Melaye, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as lacking in merit.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Adeyemi as the winner of the November 2019 Senatorial rerun election having scored 88,373 votes against Melaye’s 62,133 votes.
Melaye had challenged the outcome of the election citing irregularities in 564 polling units in the senatorial district where election held.
The Kogi State National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, had earlier on June 10, 2020 on upheld Adeyemi’s election.
