Gunmen struck in Anambra State on Sunday, attacking members of the Anambra State Vigilante Group (AVG) along the Amesi/Uga Road in Aguata Local Government Area. The assailants injured one vigilante operative and set their operational vehicle on fire, according to the police.

The incident occurred around 2:30 PM on November 24, as confirmed by Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga. He stated that police-led security forces responded swiftly to the attack, rescuing the injured operative and transporting him to a nearby hospital, where he is now receiving treatment.

During the confrontation, gunfire struck the fuel tank of the vigilante’s Toyota Frontier van, causing it to ignite and burn. Ikenga further noted that security forces have increased intelligence-led patrols in the area to prevent further attacks and to apprehend the perpetrators.

In a separate incident on the same day, police operatives from Okpoko Divisional Headquarters responded to a fire outbreak at Chukwunonso Street along Obodoukwu Road, Okpoko, in the Onitsha area. The police quickly cordoned off the scene to prevent looting, while fire service personnel worked to contain the blaze. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
