In a riveting showdown at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, the Black Princesses of Ghana clinched victory over Nigeria’s Falconets to seize the gold medal in the women’s under 20 football event at the 13th African Games.
The clash, witnessed by a fervent crowd, saw Nigeria’s Loveth Edeh breaking the deadlock with a stunning strike in the 24th minute. However, Ghana’s resilience shone through as Tracey Twum leveled the score with a magnificent goal in the 78th minute, igniting hopes of a comeback.
The game reached fever pitch as both sides battled fiercely, but it was Ghana’s Mukarama Abdulai who ultimately sealed the fate of the match. In the 99th minute of extra time, Abdulai’s precise shot found the back of the net, securing a historic victory for the Black Princesses and dethroning the Falconets as champions of the African Games.
Earlier in the tournament, Falconets had displayed dominance, securing their spot in the finals by defeating Uganda 2-0. Similarly, Ghana showcased their prowess by overcoming the Teranga Lionesses of Senegal with a commanding 3-1 victory.
