AFCON 2025-26: Nigeria defeats Algeria 2-0, to face Morocco in semifinals
Nigeria secured a 2-0 victory over Algeria in their Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal match in Marrakesh on Saturday, booking a place in the semifinals of the tournament.
Victor Osimhen opened the scoring, continuing his strong run after netting twice in the round of 16, while Akor Adams added the second to seal the result for the Super Eagles.
The win sets up a semifinal clash against host nation Morocco, one of the tournament’s leading contenders. The match is scheduled for January 14.
Nigeria, champions of Africa in 1994 and 2013, has now reached the semifinals for the third time in the last four AFCON editions, underlining its consistency at the continental level.
