ADC: Why I Joined Atiku, Kwankwaso, Others to Protest Against INEC – Obi

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has explained his participation in a protest against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) held in Abuja on Wednesday.

Obi joined a group of opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Rauf Aregbesola, Rotimi Amaechi, and Aminu Tambuwal. The protest was organised under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), with participants carrying placards calling for the protection of democratic processes.

The demonstration followed INEC’s decision to recognise a faction of the party leadership headed by David Mark.

In a statement shared on X, Obi said his participation was part of a broader effort to defend democratic principles and express concern about the state of governance in the country.

According to him, the protest also served as a reflection on Nigeria’s democratic trajectory. He warned against actions that could weaken opposition voices and limit political participation.

Obi stated that citizens must remain engaged and resist any attempts to undermine democratic institutions. He added that the outcome of governance should reflect the will of the people, stressing that public accountability remains essential.
