ADC Crisis: Resignation Letter of Nafiu Bala Surfaces Online

An alleged resignation letter attributed to a key figure in the African Democratic Congress has appeared online, adding to the party’s ongoing leadership dispute alongside recent actions by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The document, circulated on Wednesday via X by social media influencer Emma IK Umeh (Tcee), is said to have been written by Nafiu Bala Gombe. In the letter dated May 18, 2025, he reportedly stepped down from his role in the party’s National Working Committee, with effect from May 26, 2025.

He stated that the decision was intended to support ongoing coalition efforts and internal restructuring within the party. The letter also indicated that his resignation from the committee did not amount to leaving the party, adding that he remained open to future assignments if required.

In a separate correspondence addressed to the INEC Chairman in Abuja, the party confirmed that Bala’s resignation was received on May 17, 2025 and subsequently accepted by its National Working Committee in line with its constitution and the Electoral Act 2022. The letter also requested that INEC update its records to reflect the change in leadership.

The communication was signed by the party’s National Chairman, Ralph Okey Nwosu, and National Secretary, Said Baba Abdullahi.

The authenticity of the documents has not been independently confirmed. Their circulation comes amid rising tension within the ADC over leadership control and recognition.

Earlier, INEC announced adjustments to its records, removing the names of former Senate President David Mark and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as National Chairman and National Secretary of the party respectively.

The commission also stated it would not recognise Nafiu Bala Gombe as national chairman pending the outcome of ongoing court proceedings. It further announced that it would suspend recognition of all factions within the party and avoid monitoring any congresses or conventions organised by rival groups until the Federal High Court delivers judgment on the matter.
