ADC Aspirant Recounts How Late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah Lifted Him Out of Poverty After Begging for ₦1,000 to Buy Baby Milk at Nnewi Event
At a public engagement held over the weekend in Nnewi, a political aspirant under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) shared a personal account of hardship and unexpected support from the late senator Ifeanyi Ubah, describing how the intervention changed the direction of his life.
The testimony was delivered by Ikebunwa Lotanna during the launch of his “Good Governance Initiative Programme” at Anaedo VIP Hall. The initiative, he said, is aimed at supporting vulnerable individuals and promoting accountable leadership in the constituency covering Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency in Anambra State.
Speaking before supporters, Lotanna recalled a period of financial distress that he said pushed him to the edge of survival.
“I’ve suffered in life and politics. There was a time, about five years ago, when I was pleading to borrow N1,000 from people to buy milk for my child,” he said.
He explained that his situation changed after receiving an unexpected phone call from the late senator.
“But I was told by someone that my success was near. It was not long my phone rang and it was the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who asked for my account details and credited me with N150,000, which he told me to use to come to Abuja,” Lotanna said.
According to him, the financial support marked the beginning of a new phase in his life, including political engagement and employment opportunities.
“When I got there, he offered me the job of a special assistant and gave me employment at Federal Polytechnic, Oko. The same God that lifted me up will lift everybody. I miss Senator Ubah,” he added, speaking emotionally.
Lotanna also referenced his involvement in political activities for prominent figures, including Bianca Ojukwu, Andy Uba, and Ikechukwu Obiora, noting that his background in political mobilisation was not new.
The ADC aspirant is contesting the party’s ticket for the federal constituency seat currently held by Peter Uzokwe. The race has continued to attract attention within the party, with growing internal debates over representation and performance in the area.
Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South Senatorial District on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had also pursued a governorship ambition before his death, leaving behind a notable footprint in Anambra politics.
