Abuja Farmer Killed After Confronting Herders Over Cassava Farm Damage
A farmer, Baba Yakubu, was killed last Thursday in Mai Kwari village, Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, after a confrontation with suspected herders who allowed their cattle to graze on his cassava farm.
According to a relative of the deceased, Danjuma Ishaku, the incident occurred when Yakubu confronted the herders for letting their cows wander into his farm and destroy his crops. When his warnings were ignored, Yakubu reportedly struck one of the cows with a cutlass, prompting a violent reaction. One of the herders allegedly retaliated by stabbing Yakubu with a cutlass.
Yakubu’s son, who witnessed the attack, managed to flee the scene and alerted others. The wounded farmer was rushed to the Kwaita Clinic, where he was later confirmed dead.
The police have been notified, and an investigation into the killing is currently underway.
