Abia State Implements Heavy-Duty Vehicle Movement Restrictions After Fatal Auto Crash
In response to a tragic auto crash at the Aba waterside bridge claiming four lives, the Abia State government has reinstated restrictions on the movement of heavy-duty vehicles in Aba and Umuahia. Effective immediately, heavy-duty vehicles are prohibited from operating between 7 am and 8 pm.
The incident involved a container-laden truck losing control, resulting in the crushing of a Toyota Sienna car and a tricycle, causing four fatalities and numerous injuries. The state government extends its sympathies to the bereaved families and offers prayers for the deceased’s peaceful repose and swift recovery for the injured. Plans are underway to provide necessary support to the affected families.
This measure follows the earlier restriction imposed during the tenure of Former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, which heavy-duty vehicle operators had disregarded after his departure from office. The government, through a statement by Mr. Dodoh Okafor, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Communication, affirms the restoration of previous directives limiting the movement of heavy-duty vehicles within Aba and Umuahia areas from 7 am to 8 pm.
