7/7 Celebration: Anambra Police Issue Stern Warning
The Anambra State Police Command has issued a stern warning against any plans to celebrate the so-called Cult Day on July 7. This follows intelligence reports suggesting that criminal elements intend to use the day to engage in unlawful activities.
SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Police Public Relations Officer, emphasized that any gatherings or events associated with the Cult Day, often marred by violence and bloodshed, are strictly prohibited. He highlighted that the police are committed to preserving peace and will not tolerate actions that could jeopardize the security achievements made in combating cult-related crimes.
“The Command reiterates that such events are banned and will invoke relevant laws, including the newly signed Anti-Cultism law, against anyone participating in cult activities,” Tochukwu stated. He further cautioned proprietors of bars, hotels, and recreation centers to avoid hosting such gatherings, warning that there would be serious consequences for non-compliance.
Parents and guardians were also urged to advise their wards against involvement in any activities that might disturb public order.
July 7, often referred to as 7/7, holds significant notoriety in Nigeria due to its association with the Aiye Cult Group, also known as Black Axe. This date is historically marked by violent clashes and the initiation of new cult members, originating from the group’s founding on July 7, 1977.
The day has frequently been marred by violence, with reports of attacks and killings linked to cult rivalries. The police’s proactive stance aims to avert such incidents in Anambra State, ensuring the continued safety and security of its residents.
The Police, along with other security agencies, remain vigilant and dedicated to maintaining a secure environment in Anambra State.
