50-Year-Old Herbalist Arrested for Killing Friend to Create Ritual Soap for Yahoo Boys
Osun State Police Command has apprehended Kehinde Ganiyu, a 50-year-old herbalist, for the murder of his Ghanaian friend, Emmanuel Collins. The gruesome incident, which involved cutting Collins’ throat, was carried out to create ritual soap for internet fraudsters known as ‘Yahoo boys.’
The crime occurred last Thursday in Oba-Oke, located in the Olorunda local government area of Osun State. During a police parade, the suspect was showcased alongside four blood-stained knives, a chisel, two gourds, a wooden traditional pot containing black soap, two sponges with black soap, a traditional tray (Opon Ifa), and local charms. These items were discovered in Ganiyu’s possession.
Yemisi Opalola, the police public relations officer, provided details about the arrest, revealing that Ganiyu had confessed to the crime. Ganiyu admitted to visiting his ailing friend, Emmanuel Collins, and taking advantage of his vulnerable state to commit the murder. He said, “I visited my friend, Emmanuel Collins, because he was sick. While he was in bed, I took a knife and cut his throat. I used the part to prepare ritual money soap for Yahoo boys.”
The herbalist, who also identified himself as a farmer, expressed regret over his actions, noting that he had previously relied on others to procure human parts for rituals. “I used to do that kind of ritual for Yahoo boys but they are the ones that bring human parts. This time around, I looked out for the part myself. I regretted my action because I also attended his burial, but suspicion and investigation by police led to my arrest. I don’t believe that I can kill my age-long friend like that,” he lamented.
