39-year-old Doctor Arrested for Alleged Killing of Four Elderly Female Patients
A 39-year-old doctor in Berlin has been detained on suspicion of manslaughter involving four elderly female patients, aged between 72 and 94, police announced on Wednesday.
Employed by a nursing service, the doctor is alleged to have killed the women in their homes during June. Authorities revealed that the doctor, who specializes in palliative care, was presented before a magistrate on Tuesday following his arrest.
The police further stated that the suspect attempted to cover up his alleged crimes by setting fires in three of the victims’ residences. One of the victims, an 87-year-old woman, was resuscitated by emergency services but later succumbed in the hospital.
In one specific instance, the doctor is accused of killing a 76-year-old woman in her apartment located in the Neukölln district. He reportedly failed to ignite a fire in her apartment and subsequently informed her relatives that he could not gain entry as she was not responding to the doorbell.
This incident follows a recent case in April where a former cardiologist from Berlin’s Charité hospital was convicted by the Berlin Regional Court for killing two critically ill patients with lethal overdoses in 2021 and 2022.
