28-Year-Old Son Hacks Anglican Priest Father to Death in Delta

In a shocking incident in the agrarian community of Okpare in Olomu Kingdom, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, a 28-year-old man has killed his father, an Anglican reverend.

Rev. Isaac Umurie, attached to St. John’s Anglican Church, Okpare-Olomu, was brutally hacked to death in his sleep by his son, Ufuoma Umurie, around 2am on Wednesday. Sources reveal that the reverend’s wife narrowly escaped the attack as she tried to save her husband.

Neighbors and church members who managed to enter the house found the reverend’s body with severe injuries inflicted by a cutlass. Ufuoma was subdued and handed over to the police at the Otu-Jeremi Divisional Headquarters.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but community members allege that Ufuoma is mentally unstable. This was not the first time Ufuoma had attacked his father; a previous incident involved him beating the reverend, but the priest had intervened to prevent his son’s arrest.

Rev. Isaac Umurie was nearing retirement and had recently been assigned closer to home in anticipation of his retirement.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, stating, “The suspect is already in police custody and he will be prosecuted for the crime.”
