24-Year-Old Man Arrested for Allegedly Beating Daughter to Death in Calabar
A 24-year-old man, identified as Joseph Emmanuel, has been arrested by the police in Calabar, Cross River State, for allegedly beating his 10-year-old daughter to death.
The incident occurred at his residence at No. 3 Esit Ebom Street, Calabar. According to reports, the child was accused of misplacing her father’s petrol pipe, which he reportedly used to transfer fuel into his commercial motorcycle.
Witnesses said the man assaulted the child during the incident, leading to her death. The situation reportedly angered residents of the area, who attempted to attack the suspect before police intervention.
A neighbour, identified as Okon Edwin of No. 5 Ekeng Ewa Street, Calabar South, alerted the police, prompting a swift response. Police officers arrived at the scene and rescued the suspect from the mob.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Akata, confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect had sustained injuries from the mob and was taken into custody. Akata also disclosed that the suspect admitted to assaulting the child, claiming he acted out of provocation.
The suspect was taken to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for medical treatment, while the child’s body was examined and deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Police authorities confirmed that investigations have commenced, and the suspect is expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
