23-Year-Old Woman Arrested for ₦24m Robbery and SUV Theft in Anambra

A 23-year-old woman, identified as Okonkwo Onyinye, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command over her alleged involvement in the abduction and robbery of a businessman, during which ₦24 million and a Toyota Highlander SUV were stolen.

Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the arrest in a statement, revealing that the operation was carried out in collaboration with members of Agunechemba Security from the Nkwelle-Ezunaka unit. According to the police, Onyinye was part of a gang that abducted the victim at Nkwelle GRA Gate, forced him into the boot of his vehicle, and drove him to a bush in Umuoji, Idemili North Local Government Area, where he was dumped after being robbed.

The suspects reportedly transferred ₦24 million from the victim’s bank account using his mobile phone before escaping with his white Toyota Highlander, registration number RBC 649 CN. A police manhunt was launched immediately after the incident, leading to the recovery of the stolen vehicle in Ogidi. During the operation, there was an exchange of gunfire between security operatives and the suspects, who managed to flee, leaving Onyinye behind. She was arrested at the scene and is currently assisting investigators with valuable information aimed at tracking down the remaining members of the gang.

Ikenga assured the public that the police are intensifying efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects and maintain safety across the state, especially as the November 2025 Anambra governorship election draws near. The arrest, he said, underscores the importance of cooperation between the police and local security outfits in combating rising criminal activities in the state.
