2027 Presidential Ticket Open to All Despite Tinubu Endorsement, Says APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has assured that the party’s 2027 presidential ticket remains open to all aspirants, despite the widespread endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term.

APC’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Mohammad Argungu, gave the clarification on Wednesday during an interactive session with journalists at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

According to Argungu, the National Working Committee, the Progressives Governors Forum led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, and the leadership of the National Assembly under Senate President Godswill Akpabio, had collectively endorsed President Tinubu for re-election in recognition of what he described as his “outstanding performance.”

However, he stressed that the endorsement would not prevent other interested party members from contesting for the presidential ticket during the primaries.

“We will definitely not close our doors to other aspirants. When the time comes, our timetable will be released. Anybody who wishes to contest under the APC will be free to purchase the expression of interest and nomination forms,” Argungu said.

He added that the endorsement was simply a show of support for the President’s achievements, not a formal decision to shut out competition.

The clarification came amid questions over whether the APC would adopt the model used by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2014, when it reserved its presidential ticket exclusively for then-President Goodluck Jonathan.

On the party’s recent electoral performance, Argungu attributed APC’s victory in 13 out of 16 by-elections to “the grace of Almighty Allah” and the dedication of party leaders and supporters nationwide.

He described the outcome as proof of Nigerians’ continued confidence in the ruling party.

“These victories are not just statistics; they reaffirm the trust Nigerians place in the APC and reflect their belief in our capacity to deliver purposeful leadership and good governance,” he stated.
