2027: Presidency Issues Strong Warning to Tinubu’s Supporters Over Premature Campaigns
The Presidency has strongly condemned the appearance of campaign billboards promoting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 general elections. A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, expressed concern over the growing number of such billboards, particularly in major cities like Abuja and Kano, featuring the President, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and Vice President Shettima.
While recognizing the enthusiasm and loyalty of their supporters across the country, the Presidency emphasized that neither President Tinubu nor Vice President Shettima endorse or support any political campaigns that violate Nigeria’s electoral laws. The statement highlighted that the electoral law prohibits any form of campaign for the 2027 elections at this time, and such premature campaigning could undermine the integrity of the electoral process, giving unfair advantages to certain parties.
The Presidency made it clear that until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announces the official timetable for the 2027 elections, President Tinubu has not authorized or endorsed any group or individual to carry out campaign activities on his behalf, through any form of media, including billboards, print, digital, radio, or television.
The statement concluded with a call for those funding the unauthorized 2027 campaigns to immediately cease the deployment of materials, urging respect for the law and the electoral process.
