Chairman of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Engr. Adedeji Doherty has assured the PDP faithful in the state that the new year promises a great new deal and better future, saying 2023 is God’s own time for the party and Lagosians.
In his new year message e-signed on his behalf by Mr. Muka Popoola, the head of DD Media Team, Doherty charged Lagosians to vote massively for the presidential candidate of the PDP, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, His Excellency Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, to end the reign of misery, intolerable wretchedness, widespread insecurity, disunity among Nigerians and the lack of hope that the clueless APC administration has imposed on the state and the country at large.
Doherty said that the current situation whereby Nigerians can no longer feed, in which everyone now feels unsafe moving from place to place within the country, and are burdened with rising prices of basic necessities of life including the current unbearable cost of petroleum products when it is clear the income of the people is shrinking has turned living in the country to a hell.
He said Alhaji Abubakar stood out of the packs of all the presidential candidates currently on parade as the only one with cognitive experience to manage the country, having been a vice president to a most efficient and highly successful PDP Government from 1999 to 2007.
Engr. Doherty says that he’s very hopeful that the PDP will win massively in Lagos State during the forthcoming 2023 elections, just as he enjoins party leaders and members across board to come together and be united in confronting the ruling party that has fraudulently sustained itself over the past years in goverment through the use of official intimidation, state sponsored thuggery and brazen rigging of elections.
He urged the PDP leaders at all levels of the party in the state to forget whatever grievances that existed amongst them and work for all candidates in the interest of our party and the country.
Doherty said: “I know we have wronged ourselves one way or the other and I can see that some of us who feel terribly hurt have yet to forget the pains, I feel as much you feel too. But, as Chairman of the Presidential Campaign Council, I will appeal to everyone to please forgive and let us move on as the 2023 is very critical to us as a party and the nation.”
The immediate past chairman of the Lagos PDP and Convener of Unity Freedom Group (UFG) says that God has heard the cries of anguish from Lagosians and Nigerians in general, especially since 2015 that the All Progressives Congress (APC) took over the administration of the country, and they have His promise that He will not allow the pains in the land to extend beyond the tenure of the foredoomed, ill-focussed and ill-fated President Muhammadu Buhari Government ending in May this year.
Doherty said leaders in the various local governments should take firm control of the planning for the 2023 elections and ensure that the party is represented in all the polling units in their respective constituencies.
Doherty told the PDP members to go all out and win for the PDP candidates in all the elections in the state, saying that the 2023 elections is about freeing the state and Nigeria from distress, which should not be seen solely from gaining any token of financial benefits.
Empathising with the people of Lagos, Doherty said that he as well as his principal, Alhaji Abubakar, shared the pains of Nigerians in this momentous time, as he urges the citizens not to be dissuaded by the ceaseless lamentation of President Buhari in the recent times that he has done his best for the country even if no one appreciates it.
Doherty said that Buhari had only been lamenting because his heart is filled with a feeling of guilt that he and APC have failed the nation, calling on Lagosians that this is not the time to pander to any base sentiments and emotion.
The 2023 elections, says Doherty, are crucial to rescue Nigeria from the claws of the APC, which in the last seven and a half years have reversed the country from the path of growth and development charted by the PDP from 1999 to 2015.
Calling on Lagosians to reject the APC presidential candidate, and all the APC candidates during the 2023 elections in the state, Doherty said it was only a PDP Government in Abuja and Lagos that could bring about the true development-focussed and compassionate government that has eluded Lagos for over 23 years.
Doherty said that the kind of cheating and exploitative style of administration, the killing multiple tax system in Lagos and a system whereby street urchins reign like kings, that Tinubu in his days as governor implanted in the Lagos society cannot be a model for a modern Nigeria, as he urges Lagosians to use the opportunity of the 2023 elections to set Lagos free.
The Chairman of the Atiku/Okowa presidential campaign in Lagos State says that the core of his new year message to Lagosians is to get rid of the old to make place for a new and more prosperous leadership in the state and the nation at large.
“I wish you a wonderful new year and hope it brings you many blessings”, says Doherty.
