20-Year-Old Man Allegedly Kills Father with Machete, Police React
A tragic incident occurred in Jigawa State on Monday as a 20-year-old man, Muhammad Salisu, allegedly killed his father, Salisu Abubakar, with a machete in the Bakin Kasuwa Quarters of Sara District, Gwaram Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the incident in a statement released in Dutse, the state capital. According to the police, the attack happened around 10 a.m., when the suspect reportedly inflicted severe machete wounds on his father’s shoulder, neck, and chest. The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudu, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
Police officers from the Sara Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, responded swiftly to the scene and transported the victim to the hospital. The deceased’s body was later handed over to the family for burial.
The suspect was arrested at the scene, and the weapon used in the attack was recovered by police. The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa, AT Abdullahi, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for further investigation.
Authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the attack. The PPRO stated that a thorough and transparent investigation is ongoing and urged members of the public with relevant information to come forward. He assured that the suspect remains in custody and will face justice upon the conclusion of the investigation.
