19 Wedding Guests Perish in Plateau Road Tragedy
Nineteen wedding guests lost their lives and 11 others sustained injuries in a tragic accident over the weekend in the Kwana Maciji area of Pankshin Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The victims, who were traveling from Kano State after attending a wedding in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, were on their way home when the incident occurred. According to John Dasar, Chairman of the Pankshin Local Government Area Emergency Management Committee, the vehicle was en route to Bauchi through Gindiri, a shorter route, when it was involved in an accident.
Dasar explained that as efforts were being made to rescue the passengers, the vehicle caught fire, trapping and burning 19 people beyond recognition. “The driver and a few others survived, but unfortunately, 19 of them were unable to escape before the vehicle was engulfed in flames,” he said.
The survivors were immediately taken to Pankshin General Hospital for treatment.
