The Nigeria Navy has approved the establishment of a Naval base in Kano.
This was made known by the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, while on a courtesy visit to the Kano Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
He also seized the opportunity to announce the appointment of Captain Muhammad Abubakar Alhassan as acting commander of the Kano Naval Base.
You would recall that Gov Ganduje had at some point sought for the visibility of the Navy in Kano State.
Ganduje had said he believes the presence of the Navy in the state would strengthen the security of the state considered as economic nerve centre of the north and west African countries.
The Kano State Governor immediately expressed his appreciation of the gesture by allocating 100 hectares of land for the new Naval Base in the State.
The Naval officers are in Kano State for the Chief of Naval Staff Annual Conference 2021, holding from September 1 to 4.
The Chief of Naval Staff commended Gov Ganduje for his efforts on successful operations of the Navy.
The Governor inturn commended the Navy for choosing Kano for their conference, stating that “Your choice of Kano shows how concerned and confident you are with the security and safety of Kano state.”
