16 Dead, 3 Injured as Passenger Bus Collides with Stationary Truck in Oyo
At least 16 people have died after an 18-seater passenger bus collided with a stationary truck along the Oyo/Ogbomosho Expressway in Oyo town. The Oyo State government confirmed the tragedy, which occurred on Tuesday morning, 25th November 2025.
According to Adebayo Akinwande, Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the State Fire Services Agency, the incident took place in front of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education. Reports indicate that the bus swerved and struck the stationary Howo truck from behind, causing both vehicles to catch fire. Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene, extinguishing the blaze and carrying out a rescue operation.
Sixteen bodies were recovered, while three survivors were rushed to a nearby hospital by officers from the Federal Road Safety Corps for treatment. The government attributed the crash to overspeeding and careless parking of heavy trucks along the highway.
Akinwande urged motorists to adhere strictly to road safety regulations, especially during the ember months, and criticized drivers who leave large vehicles parked in hazardous locations, endangering other road users.
