13 members of Imo State House of Assembly test positive for Covid19

The spokesman of the Imo state task force on COVID-19, Chinedu Iwuala, has stated that 13 members of the Imo state house of assembly, have tested positive for the novel corona virus.

He said, that a member of the house had tested positive, hence, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) decided to test all the lawmakers and consequently, the result of 13 members came back positive.

Iwuala said the affected lawmakers have gone on self-isolation.

However, the special adviser on media to the speaker of the house, Emeka Ahaneku, disputed this, saying that, only 3 out of the 27 lawmakers members had tested positive.

He said that many staff and members, who had undergone the test, turned out negative.

He further stated that “It is true that there are incidences of COVID -19 in the House but they are not up to 5. The number of people said to have tested positive making the rounds are outrageous,”

He went on to confirm, that a lot of staff and members were tested, but the results are yet to be released.

It would be recalled that, the speaker of the house, Collins Chiji, had ordered a lockdown of the assembly complex after one lawmaker tested positive for COVID-19, and consequently directed that the entire Assembly complex be immediately fumigated.
