Nasarawa State, Nigeria – In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the community of Kurmin Tagwaye II in Nasarawa State, Favour Williams, a 12-year-old JSS 2 student, was discovered dead in her father’s farm. What makes this tragedy even more disturbing are the allegations of rape and murder surrounding her death.
The somber discovery was made last week Monday when Favour’s lifeless body was found hanging from a tree on her father’s farm, located along Wamba road in Kurmin Tagwaye II, Akwanga Local Government Area.
Community sources have been vocal in alleging that the young girl was a victim of sexual assault at the hands of her own father, Williams Ma’aji. Thomas Vincent, the youth leader of Kurmin Tagwaye, confirmed the incident and shared that Favour had been seen around the village on the day of her death. However, the circumstances leading to her tragic demise remain shrouded in mystery.
Vincent recounted, “The father told us that late Favour was working on the other side of the farm with the mother and after a while, he saw her coming and she greeted him and proceeded to another side of the farm, that she wanted to go and eat groundnuts.” Ma’aji explained that on his way home from the farm, he made the horrifying discovery that his daughter had hanged herself. In a desperate attempt to save her, he rushed to cut the rope, but it was too late; Favour had already passed away.
The shocking turn of events stirred the anger of the local youths, who contemplated taking the law into their own hands. Fortunately, the police were alerted to the situation, and both of Favour’s parents were taken into custody for further investigation. While the mother was questioned and subsequently released, Williams Ma’aji remains in detention.
To ascertain the cause of death and gather crucial evidence, Favour’s body was taken to the General Hospital in Akwanga for an autopsy, which revealed no signs of physical injury.
This heartbreaking incident has left the community in deep sorrow, and their hope for justice rests on the ongoing investigation by the Nasarawa State Police Command. Spokesman Nansel Ramhan confirmed that the case is receiving the utmost attention, ensuring that the truth behind this tragic event is uncovered.
