10th NASS Leadership: Tinubu Meets Opposition Lawmakers Tomorrow
Ahead of the forthcoming proclamation of the 10th National Assembly, President Bola Tinubu will, tomorrow meet with senators-elect and members-elect of the House of Representatives at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The agenda for discussion could not be officially confirmed at the weekend, but it is believed that the crux of deliberations would centre around the desire to firm up a harmonious working relationship between the executive and the legislature, as well as, fine-tune the process of electing leaders of both chambers of the National Assembly.
An invitation to the opposition senators and members-elect said President Tinubu would be meeting with senators by 3 pm and the members of the House of Representatives by 5 pm respectively.
An invitation, signed by Tijanni Umar, the Permanent Secretary, State House, on behalf of the president’s chief of staff, urged the lawmakers to attend and submit their list for security clearance.
It would be recalled that the National Working Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had indicated Godswill Akpabio (South South) and Barau Jibrin (North West) as its nominees for the positions of Senate president and deputy president, respectively.
The party had also endorsed Tajudeen Abbas (North West) and Ben Kalu (South East) for the positions of speaker and deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, respectively.
Notwithstanding, some lawmakers from the ruling party have expressed their opposition to the proposed zoning formula, and have vowed to pursue their ambitions to contest the various positions for which the party had already made its choice.
