10 Suspects Apprehended in Connection to FUOYE Student’s Tragic Death
The Ekiti State Police Command has taken a significant step in its ongoing investigation into the tragic death of Modupe Deborah, a 200-level nursing student at the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE). Today, the command announced the arrest of ten individuals linked to this heart-wrenching incident.
The announcement came through the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abutu Sunday, who conveyed this development via the official Twitter handle. It was revealed that Modupe Deborah had been reported missing within the university premises on September 5, 2023.
Tragically, her lifeless body was discovered in a shallow grave approximately 30 meters behind the nursing Lecture Hall on the university campus. DSP Abutu Sunday stated, “This is to inform the general public that the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Ogundare Dare, has ordered a thorough investigation into the cause of the death of one Atanda Modupe Deborah.”
The police spokesperson assured the public that justice would be pursued vigorously, saying, “The command will do everything possible to unearth the identity of the perpetrator(s) and ensure they are made to face the full wrath of the law.”
DSP Abutu Sunday urged anyone with pertinent information regarding this incident to contact the authorities through Oye Divisional Police Headquarters in Oye-Ekiti, State CIID, or the provided contact numbers.
In the wake of this tragic incident, the deceased student’s body has been placed in the morgue for an autopsy, while the ten suspects are presently in custody undergoing intensive investigation.
Prior to this update, the university management had initially reported the student as missing. In a statement issued by the Registrar, Mufutau Ibrahim, they had assured the public that an ongoing investigation aimed to locate the missing student.
However, this evolving situation has taken a dark turn, with the security team at the university confirming her tragic demise. The university management expressed its condolences to Modupe Deborah’s family and the entire university community, including her fellow students.
The management’s statement reiterated their commitment to ongoing investigations, conducted in collaboration with national security agencies, to unravel the circumstances behind this unfortunate incident and bring the culprits to justice.
